Pilates

Pilates (pronounced puh-LAH-teez) is a system of body maintenance named after Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates was originally called Contrology because it is a complete coordination of the body, mind and spirit. Pilates works on achieving a natural aligned body. It targets the entire body rather than just certain areas. When practicing Pilates, the process is just as important as the results.

Pilates works on:

Practicing good body mechanics

Improving the quality of movement

Focusing on core muscles that stabilize and control big and small muscles

Lengthening short muscles and strengthening weak muscles

bullet

Understanding the connection of movement and breath

 

All of the following Pilates classes can be offered as private sessions, semi-private or in small groups.

 

Mat Pilates Classes
Individuals learn to do fundamental movements and exercises on floor mats while using their own body weight as resistance. Mat Pilates strengthen core muscles, increases flexibility and streamlines the whole body.
Standing Pilates Classes
Individuals learn to do the movements and exercises in a vertical (standing) position.  Standing Pilates was developed to teach correct alignment in functional positions.  Many of the exercises in this class start from standing on two feet.  As individuals gain more body control and muscle tone, they will progress to doing their exercises by standing on one foot, then shifting their weight to their other foot.
Pilates Equipment Classes
In equipment classes, individuals learn how to practice Pilates on specialized equipment like the Cadillac, Reformer and the Chair.  The various pieces of equipment provide individuals with more support while doing the exercises. They also add more resistance to one’s body weight. For those interested in a group equipment session, it is strongly suggested that they received 5 private sessions before joining a group. This is to give people a basic understanding of Pilates so that the person can be mindful of their own body while working with the equipment.

Payment Policies:

Payment by cash or check for private sessions is due on the same day of a session

bullet

Full payment for a Package of 5 or Package of 10 is due on the first session of the series.

Any cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance in order to avoid being charged for the canceled lessons.

bullet

Semi-private clients will be charged at Private session rate when partner is not available.
